Discover How Allergies, Immunity, & Chiropractic Care Are All Connected

Allergies, Immunity, & Chiropractic Care

You are well into the new year, enjoying the warmer weather, budding trees and fresh air on your cheeks. There is one thing that can stop you from enjoying springtime joy.

Allergies.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, more than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies every year. They are the sixth most common cause of chronic disease in the United States. This is a common problem for both children and adults. How does chiropractic work? Let's see.

Allergic Reactions

Allergy reactions, also known by hay fever, are a condition where the body becomes hypersensitive to pollen, particles, trees, grasses/weeds and dust. The body can react to pollen by causing severe symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes and runny nose, itchy or irritated throat, heavy sneezing and itchy eyes. While these symptoms may not seem to be too severe, the body can become overly reactive and react when pollen is in full bloom. This can cause a lot of discomfort.

Immune System

The body's defense system is the immune system. The immune system is responsible for detecting and addressing threats that could cause illness. The immune system cells move throughout the body, literally on alert, looking for invaders and then removing them. The immune system sees pollen as a potential threat and reacts accordingly, resulting in runny noses, watery eyes and other symptoms.

Seasonal allergies can make the immune system hypersensitive. The immune system goes into overdrive when the pollen count is higher due to trees blooming, grasses being grown, and winds blowing dust and particles around. Each of these particles can be considered a threat. Seasonal allergies sufferers should limit their outdoor time.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is about strengthening your nervous system. This is the body's master communication network. This communication system is housed in the spine. The spine can cause problems with nerve function and adversely affect your overall health. Chiropractic adjustments improve and/or restore the range of motion in your spinal joints and give your nervous system an opportunity to function at its best.

Regular chiropractic adjustments can often lead to improvements in many areas of your life. This is because people don't realize how important the relationship between your spine and your nervous system and how they function and what you experience in life.

A decrease in allergy symptoms or allergic reactions is one area that can be improved. The improved immune system function, which is associated with certain adjustments to the upper thoracic spine, is believed to explain this improvement. Important to remember the role of the spleen. The largest organ in the body that houses immune cells is the spleen. Many nerves connect the spleen to the brain. Some exit the spine at the lower thoracic or upper lumbar levels. These areas are often addressed by chiropractors because they improve communication and function the spine.

The lymph system is another area that can be improved. The lymph system is responsible for moving waste and toxins throughout your body. Chiropractic adjustments can help the lymph system move the things it needs.

Many people look for the miracle cure or the perfect way to fix their health issues. But that's not how health works. It's a series of choices that gives your body the best chance to function and heal as it was intended. Allergies are no different. To feel better and have better health, you may need to have a complete set of tools. The springtime allergy season can bring out the best in you and chiropractic care is a natural way to help your body.
