How to Treat Bursitis in Your Knee
Nagging knee pain can cause severe discomfort. It can make it difficult to get up and down from a seated position, stand for extended periods of time, or do your daily chores. For many, nagging knee pain can make it difficult to do their exercise routines, which can have a negative impact on mental health.
These factors can make it difficult to complete your daily tasks and even drive you crazy. Pes Anserine Bursitis is a common cause of nagging knee pain.

Anatomy
Take a trip down your leg and you will see that the sartorius, gracilis, and gracilis muscles (inner thigh) converge at the medial (inside), aspect of your knee and attach to the top medial portion (shin bone) of the Tibial bone (tibial bone).
The pes anserine Bursa is a small, fluid-filled sac that sits below the location where three tendons connect and converge. It is placed on the tibia so that it is between the bone tendons. The bursa's purpose is to encourage smooth and proper motion of the tendons above the bone. The bursa helps with proper gliding by providing a little cushion and decreasing friction between surfaces.
Bursitis Causes & Symptoms
Pes anserine Bursitis occurs when the bursa becomes irritated, produces too much fluid, and then swells. This puts pressure on the tendons and surrounding structures as well as the muscles that cross the bursa. There are many reasons this condition can occur. This is most commonly caused by chronic overuse of muscles. Runners can also experience it, especially if they increase their training prior to races.
Other causes include poor hip and knee coordination, poor form during exercise, tightening of hamstrings, weak adductors, and muscle imbalances. Tenderness around the inside of the knee is the most common symptom. This can be caused by a tendency to lift the knee from a seated position, climb stairs or fully bend or straighten the knee.
Healing
Chiropractic care improves overall body function by optimizing nervous system function, improving brain-body communication, and increasing overall body function. Chiropractic adjustments increase or restore the spinal joint range of motion. This in turn reduces structural interference to the body's master communication system. The lumbar and sacral spines are where nerves exit the spine to innervate gracilis, semitendinosus, and sartorius muscles. These areas can be treated with chiropractic care to improve brain/body communication.
It is important to avoid any activity that may aggravate the area. Even "normal" activity could further irritate the area. However, this does not mean that you have to immobilize the affected area. It is important to keep your muscles healthy.
Sometimes, manual therapy and rehabilitation are required to heal fully. Physical therapy can be a great option. It will help loosen tight muscles and strengthen weak muscles. The bursa will settle if the anatomical structures are working correctly.
Pes Anserine Bursitis can cause severe pain and irritation to your daily life. It can be treated with chiropractic. If given the right environment and opportunity, your body can heal itself.
